Sita Devi Singh is widely regarded as one of the finest living practitioners of traditional Madhubani painting. Born in Jitwarpur village in the heart of the Mithila region, she learned the art from her mother at the age of seven — a tradition stretching back countless generations in her family.
Over her 40-year career, Sita Devi has exhibited in Nepal, India, Japan, Germany, and the United States. She is a recipient of the National Cultural Excellence Award from the Government of Nepal and was honoured by UNESCO as a Living Heritage Artist in 2022.
